Reds End A's Long Win Streak in a Classic
3B/RHP Jackson Emery hit a walk-off sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 7th inning to hand the Athletics' their first lost since 2015. The extra inning game was the first of the year for the league and resulted in a classic with C Turner Clews coming around to score the winning run. Clews had started the inning with a single which was the Reds' first hit of the game. Emery was also the winning pitcher after 2 2/3 innings in relief of RHP Willem Thurber. Thurber allowed just one run but left with the A's up 1-0. A bases loaded walk to 1B Joey Reynolds netted the Reds' first run in the 5th. RHP Josh McKenney tossed 4 1/3 hitless innings for the A's and RHP Brandon Weeks gritted out 2 2/3 innings of relief before allowing the single to Clews in the seventh. McKenney also had two hits and scored the A's lone run in the first on an RBI single hit by SS Cameron Frost. Both teams played crisp defense in the field highlighted by plays from Reds SS Alex Palomba and A's C Alex McClelland.
